Ingredients

Scale

For the Sloppy Joe Filling:

  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp chili powder (optional)
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1/4 cup beef broth (optional)

For the Garlic Bread:

  • 1 loaf French or Italian bread, halved lengthwise
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook the Meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
  2. Sauté Aromatics: Add the onion and garlic, cooking until softened (3-4 minutes).
  3. Season and Sauce: Stir in salt, pepper, paprika, chili powder, tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, and broth. Simmer for 8-10 minutes until thickened.
  4. Make Garlic Bread: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Mix softened butter, garlic, parsley, and garlic powder in a bowl. Spread onto bread halves and bake for 5-7 minutes until crisp.
  5. Assemble: Spoon Sloppy Joe mixture onto garlic bread, sprinkle with cheese, and broil for 2-3 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  6. Serve: Slice and enjoy hot!

Notes

  • For Crispier Bread: Toast the bread before adding the filling.
  • Make It Spicy: Add red pepper flakes or jalapeños.
  • Extra Flavor: Sprinkle Parmesan cheese before broiling.
