Ingredients

Scale

For the Cookie Dough:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • Green food coloring

For the Decoration:

  • Green royal icing or frosting
  • White candy melts or marshmallows (for eyes)
  • Black icing (for pupils and mouth)
  • Red icing (for tongue, optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Cookie Dough

  1. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients until fully combined.
  5. Add green food coloring and mix until the dough reaches the desired shade.
  6. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Step 2: Shape and Bake

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to ¼-inch thickness.
  3. Use round cookie cutters to create the frog’s face and smaller circles for the eyes.
  4. Place cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges turn slightly golden.
  6. Let the cookies cool completely before decorating.

Step 3: Decorate the Frog Cookies

  1. Cover cookies with green royal icing and let it set.
  2. Attach white candy melts/marshmallows as eyes with icing.
  3. Pipe black icing dots for pupils and a fun smile.
  4. Add a red icing tongue for extra personality.

Notes

Chill the Dough – Prevents spreading and keeps the cookie shape intact.
Use Squeeze Bottles for Icing – Easier to control for precise decorating.
Let Icing Set – Avoid smudging by letting each layer dry before adding details.
Experiment with Expressions – Create different emotions with icing designs.
