Ingredients

Scale

For the Gnocchi & Sauce:

  • 1 lb (450g) potato gnocchi (homemade or store-bought)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

For Garnish & Topping:

  • 1 large burrata ball
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Extra virgin olive oil (for drizzling)
  • Additional grated Parmesan (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Gnocchi

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  2. Add the gnocchi and cook according to package instructions (usually 2-3 minutes).
  3. Once they float to the surface, drain and set aside.

Step 2: Prepare the Creamy Tomato Sauce

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent (about 3 minutes).
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Pour in heavy cream and stir until the sauce is smooth and creamy.
  6. Stir in Parmesan cheese and mix well. Adjust seasoning if needed.

Step 3: Combine & Serve

  1. Add the cooked gnocchi to the sauce and toss gently to coat.
  2. Divide the gnocchi among serving plates.
  3. Tear the burrata ball into pieces and place them on top of the gnocchi.
  4. Garnish with fresh basil leaves, a drizzle of olive oil, and extra Parmesan.
  5. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

Use Fresh Burrata – The creaminess melts beautifully into the dish.
Balance the Acidity – A pinch of sugar in the sauce can help mellow out the tomatoes.
Don’t Overcook the Gnocchi – Remove them as soon as they float to avoid mushiness.
Make it Spicy – Add extra red pepper flakes or a drizzle of chili oil for heat.
Pair with Wine – A glass of Chianti or Pinot Grigio enhances the flavors perfectly.
